Introduction to Louis XIV

In class on Tuesday we started our lessons on absolute rulers in 17th century Europe. One of these rulers was Louis XIV of France, and while many of us know him as the man responsible for the building of Versialles, his strong interest in the arts resulted in the coining of many french ballet terms. Ballet emerged in the late fifteenth-century Renaissance court culture of Italy as a dance interpretation of fencing, and further developed in the French court from the time of Louis XIV in the 17th century. Extra Credit Film Review

Our final extra credit film of the semester will be on Monday, December 7th from 3:45 - 5:45. We will be watching Luther as a supplementary activity to our discussion on the Protestant Reformation. The film review will be due at the beginning of class on Friday, December 11th.
