Medieval Times

Per special request of Katie Pitts in 7th period, students will have the opportunity to visit Medieval Times this Friday night (October 23rd) at 8pm. This trip will is meant to supplement our learning experience of Medieval Europe, which we've been reviewing in class for the past week. As this is not an official function of the school, it is again requested that some parents make the trip to help supervise the students. In terms of pricing for the event, I have an appointment to speak with the Medieval Times sales manager tomorrow after-school, but I'm thinking that it will be approximately $35 per individual. Though this sounds like a lot, remember that you'll be getting dinner plus a two-hour show (I've previously attended, and it's quite memorable). I'll have specific details regarding the pricing and any extras posted on the blog tomorrow night.

Rise and Fall of Islamic Caliphates

As the topic regarding the change and expansion of Islamic caliphates can often be confusing to students, I will offer an extra credit opportunity Monday morning at 7:30am - 8:20am to clarify this material. Students will be required to complete a graphic organizer using the college-preparatory world history textbook and examine a single primary source from the time period.

Extra Credit Film Review

An extra credit film review will be available this Friday (yes, the teacher workday) from noon until 3:00pm in my classroom. Simply come and view the film "The Message" and write up a film review by next Friday (October 16th). Truly, I believe that this film is very helpful in understanding the origins of Islam.

How to Write a Film Review

Rise of Islam Homework

Use pages 201 and 202 in your textbook to trace the lineage of the caliphate from Abu Bakr to the three divisions of Islam (use page 197 to clarify information regarding the Shi’ites & Sunnis).

First, create a rough draft of the information as you read through your book.

Second, use a clean sheet of white paper to present your information in a organized & understandable manner.
–Make sure to clarify familial relationships & conflicts
–Ex. Timelines, family trees, spider diagrams, flowcharts, etc.

We will work on this assignment for the rest of the period. It will be discussed and collected at the beginning of class tomorrow.

You can earn ten extra credit points on a quiz for supporting your classmates by going to see Little Shop or Horrors. Simply bring in your ticket stub show that you attended. The play is showing at the following times this week:
