Our next major project will be an examination of specific cities that held importance from the time period 600 - 1450 C.E. The project will be due for all groups and classes on Monday, November 16th. We will review the project in class this week and I will show you some examples of projects from last year. This will be our last major project this semester.

Leighton & Sarah, try looking for something from the Fatimid Caliphate as that was the sect of Islam that was specifically located in Cairo.

ReplyDelete"Culture & Society" = religion, technology, governmental organization & social hierarchies.
"People & their way of life" = Who were the inhabitants of this region? What general life-styles were they leading (hunter-gatherers? nomadic? agriculturalists?)? What larger systems were these people a part of (dynasties, caliphates, empires)?

ReplyDeleteCaroline, some cities may be harder than others to find photos, but I would say that six or seven is a safe number. Feel free to use more if you want though.

If we are doing Constantinople can we only talk about buildings when the city was called that? cause it had like three differnet names...

Hayden, most of the information for the project should come from the period 600 - 1450. You can, however, include some basic info./culture/architecture stuff from other time periods to help supplement the material you already have.

ReplyDeleteI definitely wouldn't throw an entire primary source into the brochure. I would just include it with all of the other materials (ex. photo album, bibliography, etc.) when you turn in it.

ReplyDeleteThe data sheet is simply the brochure. It doesn't need to be a seperate part of the project.
As for documents from Melacca, try searching for something from Ming China regarding the travels of Zheng He. That should help. If not, try searching "Melakka" and see if anything pops up. Maybe your classmates could comment on how they found their primary source for Melacca.
Should the brochure be written in past or present tense?
